Deborah Brewster will focus on the critical issue of the implications of artificial intelligence for animal welfare during her time as a Visiting Fellow. She aims to evaluate the potential benefits and harms of AI for animals and identify the appropriate governance of AI for animal welfare. 

Deborah has had a distinguished career spanning journalism, media strategy, and digital innovation. She was most recently a senior executive at News Corp, a global media company, where she led corporate initiatives in strategy, acquisitions, and business development. Previously, Deborah was deputy managing editor at The Wall Street Journal, a newsroom leadership role in which she helped modernize the publication, launched new sections, and led several departments. Deborah began her journalism career in Australia before joining the Financial Times, where she held both writing and editorial leadership roles. 

She has contributed her expertise to global institutions through consulting engagements, is a senior advisor at investment bank Oaklins deSilva+Phillips, and serves on several non-profit boards, including Sentient Media and Animal Policy International. Deborah has spent the past year as an Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow at Harvard, where she focused on farm animal welfare.
