The Harvard Student Animal Legal Defense Fund was founded in 1995 as an official campus organization that supports students interested in Animal Law, hosts frequent speakers and events, and engages the HLS community in issues facing animals.
In the 2014-15 school year the Harvard SALDF held seventeen such events––including the successful (now annual) Animal Law Week, which presents notable animal law speakers to the broader Harvard community. Many of those events drew over 100 attendees, helping boost the profile and visibility of Animal Law on campus. This also helped the Harvard SALDF win the national “Chapter of the Year” award from the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
