Professor Kristen Stilt gives guest lecture to Greek students studying Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law

On May 19-20, Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) in Greece welcomed a group of more than 40 students from the MA Program “Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law”, which is offered by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Athens and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute.

The intensive academic weekend in the beautiful coastal city of Nafplio included sessions with their program faculty and presentations about the Center’s history and Harvard’s international presence.  In addition, the students heard presentations by Professor Kristen Stilt, Faculty Director of the Brooks McCormick Jr. Animal Law & Policy Program, and Nicolas Prevelakis, Assistant Director of Curricular Development at the Center for Hellenic Studies and an Associate Senior Lecturer on Social Studies.

Professor Stilt’s presentation “Rights of Nature, Rights of Animals,” which was given over Zoom, was followed by a lively Q&A with students. The presentation will be available on CHS’s website next week.

CHS Greece supports Greek Universities by hosting their programs at the Center’s facilities in Nafplio, and by creating bridges of communication between them and colleagues from Harvard, while contributing to their administrative, logistical, and other needs.
