November 09, 2022This Thanksgiving We Celebrate the Cambridge Turkeys

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone – all human animals and non-human animals!

During this Thanksgiving season, the Animal Law & Policy Clinic wants to celebrate the wondrous Cambridge wild turkeys and thank them for being a part of our lives! How lucky we are to have these incredibly beautiful birds in our local community! – they brighten our lives and bring us closer to nature! Our city would just not be the same without them – they bring joy to everyone who sees them, foraging in our neighborhoods and in Cambridge Common, strutting down Massachusetts Ave., seemingly without a care in the world. Luckily, they are protected in Cambridge from what so many of these special animals endure every year at this time—massive slaughter in the name of a “traditional” Thanksgiving meal. This year, we hope more of you will consider bypassing this particular part of the Thanksgiving feast, and focus more on the potatoes, collard greens, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pies!  As a famous Concord neighbor once said:

All good things are wild and free!”

– Henry David Thoreau
