Finn Preiss Visiting Fellow

Finn Preiss is a Visiting Scholar and Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. His research focuses on how the relationship between animal agriculture, climate change, and food security is addressed within the international climate regime. Coming from a family of veterinarians, Finn grew up alongside animals and developed a longstanding interest in animal welfare. He aims to improve the treatment of animals through the lens of international environmental law.

Finn studied law as a scholarship recipient of the German National Academic Foundation at Heidelberg University, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and the Hague Academy of International Law. During his studies, he interned at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection, where he worked in the “Fundamental Issues, Strategy, and Law of Adaptation to Climate Change” department. He also volunteered at his law school’s legal clinic. He graduated from law school in July 2025 as one of the top graduates in his cohort. Since then, he has worked as a law tutor at Heidelberg University and as a Research Fellow in the ENSURE research group at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (MPIL), led by Dr. Carolyn Moser.
