Jonathan Smith Internal Chair
Jonathan is a 3L who became interested in animal-related issues after winning a goldfish at a carnival eight years ago, but he only recently discovered his passion for animal law while taking the Animal Law and Policy Clinic in his 2L year. He has worked on animal issues related to Article III standing, cephalopod care in research facilities, the Endangered Species Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, and consumer protection statutes. Outside of the clinic, Jonathan assisted Professor Stilt in her amicus for the use of the necessity defense for the rescue of animals in a Wisconsin trial, and he is currently writing a paper on whistleblowing as a mechanism to protect animals on factory farms. Prior to law school, Jonathan co-founded an indoor microgreens farm in Providence, RI. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reefkeeping, and playing guitar.
