Nyala Carbado Vice President

Nyala is a 3L from Los Angeles, California. They were a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles, where they majored in History and African American Studies with a focus in Gender Studies. During their time at UCLA, Nyala also worked for the African American Policy Forum, researching issues regarding police violence against Black women. Just before law school, Nyala was an SEO Fellow at McDermott Will & Emory in Los Angeles. Then, prior to joining Harvard Law School as a transfer student, Nyala served on the board of the University of Chicago Law School’s chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund and as a 1L rep for the Black Law Students Association, OutLaw, and the Environmental Law Society. At Harvard, Nyala has worked in the Animal Law and Policy Clinic, served as the transfer representative for the Animal Law Society, and joined the Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review as an Articles Editor. This past summer, Nyala was a summer associate at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles. In their free time, Nyala enjoys vegan baking, knitting, watching trash TV, and spending time with animals.
