Guardians for the Voiceless: Judging Animal Rights and Nature Rights in Pakistan
A talk with Justice Athar Minallah, a Pakistani jurist, former Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, and former judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan
Justice Minallah will explore the pioneering role of Pakistani courts in recognizing the legal rights of non-humans and articulating the corresponding constitutional and moral obligations humans owe to animals, ecosystems, and nature. Drawing on his landmark jurisprudence – including decisions affirming that animals possess legal and natural rights – he will reflect on how courts can expand the boundaries of justice beyond the human sphere.
On Tuesday, March 10 from 12:15 – 1:15 pm
